the trio in scotland, part I: Glasgow

Last Saturday I woke up very early, made my way to the airport, and flew to Glasgow. Cameron was waiting for me at the airport - after not seeing him for a month and a half I don't think I've ever hugged someone as hard or long. We made our way to the city center and met up with Bret, and then the three of us started our Scotland adventure!

We stayed in a cosy bed and breakfast that sat a few blocks from the city center on a hill. The Victorian House. I recommend it if you're ever visiting Glasgow - hard wood floors, free wi-fi, free unlimited traditional Scottish breakfast in the morning, warm rooms.  It was a nice way to start our trip. We checked in and then walked around the city...

We took a walk through the biting cold and found the Glasgow Cathedral - the only cathedral in Scotland to completely survive the Reformation (so it's pretty old). An organ player sat tucked away over the main sanctuary and played throughout our entire visit.

It seems every major city in the UK has their own winter carnival, complete with ferris wheel and Christmas lights. This was Glasgow's (not even half what Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park is - but cute nonetheless. How snooty I sound - I must be a true London-er!)

Glasgow nightlife: Starbucks for hot chocolate and mince pies, and then a visit to the tallest cinema in the world. That's right. In the world. We saw 'My Week with Marilyn' on Floor 4, after taking at least 6 escalators up the building.

My boys, waiting for the train to Edinburgh:
